PET

I'm preparing for my pet scan (positron emission tomography scan) on New Years Eve. (A pet scan is an imaging test that uses nuclear medicine to view the body on a cellular level. )
My diet adjustments for this weekend are
•eating foods high in protein
•avoiding sugar and starches
•lots of water
*Actually a great diet for all the time!*
The reason for this is that when cancer divides and grows, it "sucks in" more glucose than our normally dividing cells. The radioactive glucose that is injected and circulates through your body will be taken up by the cancer and those areas will "light up" on the scan. Having a small amount of carbs allows for a clearer scan since the cancer cells - if they are there - will be hungry for some sugar and will take up this radioactive glucose much better than if they had already been munching on some that you had previously provided for it...
I've kept true to this type of diet since August, with a few exceptions of junk food "binges", usually right after I would get my appetite back after chemo treatments. I haven't had a pet scan done since the discovery of my tumor.
I'm very anxious to see what it shows.

I won't see my doctor until January 8. It's going to be a long wait!
Waiting! Something I've had to become accustomed to dealing with lately.

Speaking of waiting..... I have hairs on my head! Not very much, but enough to remind me.....

"Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." Luke 12:7

So, that was my Science lesson for you all this weekend, and a "show n tell" of my new hair!
